Sweden

After our Poland adventure we headed off to Sweden. It has been 20 years for my mom and was very special to get to see her second family from far far away. We got the warmest welcome on earth, no wonder my mom always talks about her amazing childhood over there.

We stayed in the Garden House right at the lake, with my own little beach. I swam in the lake almost everyday, did some canoeing, fishing with my uncle and jet-skiing which was super cool and very fast. Family time was special too, 13 of us were together almost all the time, at breakfast, dinner and playtime. I played lots of soccer with my new buddy Theo. I even got a swedish soccer jersey with my name on it. I also had the chance to go to the glass factory and I blow my own glass christmas ornaments. On the way back from Sweden we brought Jorgen (The head of the family) back to Vancouver.

Check for yourself.

Poland

It was a long warm summer. We managed to go overseas (First time for me) and visit my mom’s roots.
Poland it is.

I loved every aspect of it: Weronika’s house, my new friends Antos and Karolcia, Krakow, my mom’s lovely aunty Lidzia in Warsaw, mom’s house in her hometown, and the new owners Krzysztof and Urszula who made almost a Christmas dinner for us, all of mom’s friends that we visited there…perogies, princepolo…ah and my new nail Polish done by Weronika.

Next post about Sweden.

Arigato

Japan was our new adventure. I loved every aspect of it, from great food, traditional Japanese accommodation, biking in Kyoto, bowing to everybody and even attempting to speak Japanese.
It happened to be my mom’s big 40th birthday to celebrate too so double fun :) Enjoy Tokyo and Kyoto.

Following John Wayne

Our last week road trip was dedicated to John Wayne as I am his biggest fan. I even thought to marry him until my mom said that he already died. My love began after seeing, The Searchers about 20 times. It was time to go to “John Wayne land” so we did. We visited 5 National Parks- Zion, Bryce, Arches, Monument Valley and Grand Canyon, which was priceless. Monument Valley was the key point as that was the place where “The Searchers” was made. We spotted the exact rock formation which was present in the movie.
Driving along the Colorado river in Moab, we got to a lodge with a Cowboy Museum and of course a big John Wayne statue. In Moab we got my very fist cowboy boots.
I got a little souvenir from the trip which was a water bottle with John Wayne on it. I brought the bottle to School the day after and told my friends and teachers about John Wayne. My schoolmates all touched the bottle and asked if John Wayne had super powers and if he is a super hero… I guess he is.

Wild Wild West

This time we reached the Wild Wild West for real, Old gold and silver mines, Cowboys, one of them was John Wayne I think, Sandy “highways” with Joshua Tress on the site and beautiful Cacti. We stayed in an old house right in the heart of Joshua Tree National Park, it was something special for sure. Felt like 100 years back like a cowboy in the saloon next to my Cow Girl Mommy.

The day after next we reached San Diego and its US Midway aircraft carrier. Pictures speak for themselves how much fun I had. We headed north on the coast and turned inland right before LA. Next night we stayed in the mountain at Bare Lake Valley. It was 20 Celsius and no snow but apparently we were in a ski resort.

Finally we reached Vegas. I ate a lot, I was able to go by myself and choose any food I desired from the all you can eat buffet. The main attraction of the entire trip was the long awaited Cirque Du Soleil. I absolutely loved it!!!! I was clapping for the entire show. Unfortunately it was time to go home. A Great 5 days in the middle of the Desert and with the great Californian Coast, we come to THE END.

End of The Year Adventure
This time we mixed and matched places and temperatures. From +30 in Puerto Rico to -16 in Chicago. Together with Mom and Grandparents we went on a Caribbean adventure visiting 4 islands, Puerto Rico, Turk and Caicos, St Martin and Half Moon Key on Bahama. I loved the turquoise warm water, white sandy beaches, old Victorian San Juan and nothing except sand, palms and water on Half Moon Key.

Wildlife wise I touched a stingray (which had previously bit my Grandad), held a star fish and weird sea cucumber…and saw lots of donkeys.

After being lazy we took our down jackets and headed to New York. It was cold, snowy, and I didn’t bother walking. My favorite was Times Square with all the lights and Elmo :) My least favorite was transportation from the Airport to the hotel (train + metro) well I think it was my mom’s less favorite as I was comfy in my stroller. New York caught us with a snowstorm and we got stuck for a few hours in the airport which caused us to lose our connection from Chicago to Vancouver. Well after adding another day to our itinerary we stayed one day In Chicago and spent five minutes (enough) outside in -16 C. The rest was nice and warm indoors :)

After each flight I always go to the Pilot and say “Thank you Mr Pilot”. This time my politeness paid me back as on the way home I got invited to the Pilot’s cockpit, that was priceless!!!

We finally made it back home the day after where dad picked us up in the airport, I had so much to tell him :)

PS. BTW I managed to write a letter to Santa, picture attached

Hawaii – Kauai

Kauai – was great. My Mom made sure we were busy every second, from off road drives, to the wild beaches, to catamaran sailing and drives through canyons and rivers and an educational Pearl Harbor visit. We celebrated my grandparent’s birthday too :) and met mom’s friend, Nancy. My biggest success was learning how to swim. Well.. I’m still using arm floaters, but I do it all by myself, in any depth you think of. I met a new friend on the catamaran, his name is Ben and he is around 30… Check for yourself, I even managed to get a picture with him. I quite like him. There are lots of pictures to go through so I am not going to write more.
See for yourself! Take your time, mommy prepared 140 pictures – I look like Yoda on one of them.

Southeast Asia Adventure – China (part6) and last one

..And here we are China! We flew to this small Island called Hainan and my mom booked a hotel far from tourists hoping to see real China. And she got it no doubt. First thing we encountered was that nobody understood the word “taxi”, until my dad drew a picture and got recognized, we were happy we got it solved. Since we booked the hotel online in Vancouver we had a confirmation with the address printed in English not in Chinese and that was a problem we didn’t think about. The second thing we learned was that everybody tried to help, the taxi driver even tried calling some friends who could maybe read English and find our hotel. As we were spoiled during the trip, where everybody was taking dollars, this time we needed the bank. Well the first bank was closed due to Christmas decorating but thankfully the second one was there for us. Eventually we found the hotel (far far from everything in the middle of nowhere) and after the first night where we couldn’t communicate with the hotel staff, again dad was showing the taxi drawing and I heard my mom saying for the first time “I want to go where tourists go”.
So my mom started calling random numbers which were on Chinese tourist pamphlets in the hotel hoping that somebody would speak English, but no luck there. At around 10:30 at night we received a phone call…seems like somebody must have helped us and made an English speaking person contact us. That night we arranged for a taxi to pick us up in the morning at 10am to go to the office and see how to get to the more visited part of the island the day after. :) We were ready at 10; taxi arrived at 11….We managed to book new hotels and transportation to a new place. 4 hours later we were in our new Hotel where we still didn’t have much chance to ask questions in English but at that point we were pro using our hands and sounds (mom making chicken sounds to order chicken for dinner)
We spent 7 days on Hainan Island, we saw the rainforest, long stretches of beaches, fishing villages, fascinating night markets and mommy went to the monkey island. I stayed with dad in the pool. For Christmas dinner we found an Italian restaurant, pizza and pasta had never tasted as good as they did that day.
We met wonderful, warm and generous people who were giving me gifts and lots of smiles. Jala, our guide for 2 days, who happened not to be a tour guide but working in the office, helped us a lot. Mom is still in touch with her via email. We left China after 7 days back to Singapore and then back home.
During my travels I met wonderful people, lots of smiles and generosity. I was like a little celebrity for them and they were celebrities for us …I guess it balanced out. Oups that was a long post…Hope you enjoyed it all.

Southeast Asia – Hong Kong (part 4)

Hong Kong it is! We left the boat and all the great people we met there. Some of the staff we became friends with will visit us while the cruise is in Vancouver. We are staying one day in HK and then heading out for adventure in China, on Hainan Island. Anyhow, going back to Hong Kong, most of the day we spent on the streets checking fish markets, birds and flowers, once. At night we went (well I fell a sleep half way there) to night market which turn out to be a food and shopping fiesta for locals and tourists. The City landscape was impressive even in the fog. Enjoy.
